Hawkswing sat in the thunderclan main camp sharing tongues with Dawnsghost her mate. Birds fluttered overhead but she felt no urge to chase after them like she normally did. She felt strange-odd perhaps, but she shrugged the feeling off.
A strong gust of wind blew over the camp and she got to her feet shakeily, wondering what was wrong. Her head swam and she mewed to Dawnsghost. "Im not feeling too well. Im going to the medicine cats den and have a lie down" and with that she tottered away

I think I can safely say you are having kits right?

>Yeah she is:)<
With a concerned look, Dawnsghost jumped up and ran after her. Slipping in beside her, he murmured 'Lean on me.' Supporting Hawkswings weight, they moved towards Wolfpelts den. 'Wolfpelt, are you in?' he called gently. 'Hawkswing isn't feeling to well.'

Hawkswing felt Dawnsghost beside her and leaned on him as they made their way to the medicine cats den. Her breathing was coming short and sharp although she knew she wasn't very far along with her pregnancy. As they neared the Medicine cats den she narrowed her eyes to the gloom. Making her way past the herb shelves, with the help of Dawnsghost she walked to the far corner and collapsed and lay down in a heap, sighing.

Slipping quietly from the nursery behind Rookwing Singleflame watched her find a seat before turning to the medicine cats den. As he took a pawstep towards it he noticed a rusty red coloured tail disappear inside. It certainly wasn't Wolfpelt's tail, so some cat needed help. He trotted over with interest, scenting the air. It was Dawnsghost and Hawkswing.. the two of them together. He nosed his way through the hanging lichen on the den and noticed the pair in the far corner. It was common knowledge, to medicine cats at least, when a queen was about to kit, and even though Hawkswing was barely moons into her pregnancy, now was one of those times. Singleflame was having difficulty controlling his panic. He waved his tail in acknowledgement to the two and began to rush around the herbs picking out the ones he would need and placing them gently on the floor at his feet in one neat pile. He was going over and over their names in his head, to make sure he didn't forget. Poppy seeds, borage leaves, thyme - poppy seeds, borage leaves, thyme - poppy seeds, borage leaves, thyme. Delicately taking them in his mouth he bounded over to the two cats and placed them back on the floor in front of Hawkswing.
'Hawkswing, eat these poppy seeds, they're for the pain, Dawnsghost, there's some fresh moss-' he flicked his tail in the right direction, '-over there, could you make her a nest to sleep in and then go and fetch some water, use moss to carry it' his tone was calm and yet commanding but inside he was still all over the place. He took the borage leaves and thyme and began to chew them into a pulp, spearing a leaf with one claw he spat it out onto there and pushed it towards the she-cat.
'Eat that too, it's borage and thyme, it'll help to calm you and will help with your milk. Once Dawnsghost is finished with the nest I want you to try and move onto it, d'you think you can do that or are you in too much pain?' he asked, noticing for the first time how fast and shallow her breathing was. It wouldn't be long now. Without waiting for her reply he turned tail and launched himself out of the medicine cats den, yelling with all his voice:
'WOLFPELT!'
:before springing back to Hawkswing's side in several strides. He had a bad feeling about this kitting..

Sensing urgency in Singleflames voice, Dawnsghost almost ran to the moss pile, picking up a mouthfull and trotting back to where his mate lay. Returning to the pile, he lifeted as much as he could carry and, with the moss from his earlier deposit, made a thick, comfortable nest next to Hawkswing. Then, following the apprentices orders, took more moss and sprinted to the small stream just outside the camp. Soaking it, he raced back with the dripping bundle and laid it next to his mates head. 'Here, drink this. It'll help you keep strong.'

Hawkswing too noticed the urgency in the two toms voices and expressions. I think so she mewed weakly to Singleflame. Carefully she stood up on shaking legs and moved to the newly made bed, before a shock of pain took her. Looking up at Dawnsghost she thankfully took the damp moss and began to suck out the cold moisture, thankfull for the help it gave her.

OOC:: Sorry I haven't been on! Visiting grandparents!
Wolfpelt heard her name being screeched like the world depended on it. She had been out to collect some marigold while Singleflame was watching the queens. Now, she scooped up the clump of herb and flew through the forest. What's happening? Is someone hurt badly? The thoughts ran through her head. If someone was injured, it was good that she was getting marigold. But this sounded different. Singleflame's yowl had been filled with fear, a very strong fear. Wolfpelt recalled how he had been this frightened when- Oh no! Wolfpelt kicked up her paws and shot into camp, not slowing a bit.
Brambles swished as the wolf-cat made an awkward entrance. Knowing that she wasn't going to slow enough to be able to walk through her den, she had sat down and skidded in. The stone didn't slow her much and she disappeared into the back of the den, only to return a heartbeat later, panting. "Singleflame! Someone! Fill me in!" she commanded in a exhausted voice.

Turning to Wolfpelt, the worried cat meowed 'Somethings wrong with Hawkswing, shes been dizzy and Singleflame thinks the kits are coming but she hasn't been carrying them for long' the words rushed out of his mouth and a frantic look gained dominance in his eyes.

Hawkswing lifted her head slightly as Wolfpelt skidded in, though this excercise drained her. Hawkswing decided to let the others fill her in as she wasn't feeling QUITE up to it. The water was wearing off and she fliked her tail halfheartedly to Dawnsghost to get some more. She could see he was worried and gave him, what she hoped, was a reasuring smile

Seeing that his mate wanted more water, he ran out of the den again, coming back with more soaked moss. Laying it in front of her, he meowed to Wolfpelt 'She's going to be alright, won't she?

In truth Hawkswing was asking the same question inside. What if i dont make it she thought. She knew the nervousness displayed plainly on her face. I dont want Dawnsghost to go through all that pain!

'Whats the matter Hawkswing?' Dawnsghost asked nervously, seeing the emotion play across her face. 'Everythings going to be okay.'

"I hope so" she mewed weakly as another spasm of pain took hold of her. Gritting her teeth she made it through and glanced outside at the otherwise lovely day. "I hope so" she continued.

Wolfpelt shook her head. "I cannot answer that question until I have had a look at her." She came gently to Hawkswing's side. The wolf-cat placed a paw delicately on the she-cat's belly. It did feel slightly unnatural. She looked over to her shocked apprentice. "She is going to have kits, they just are having some problems. Now, do you know how long you've been pregnant?" Wolfpelt's tail came around and she hit herself in the head. "Of course you don't, silly me. Um, how far back can you remember having any changes in weight or eating behavior or," Wolfpelt was beginning to stumble over her words. "Or behavior all round?"
Wolfpelt moved away from the she-cat. She trotted to the back of her den and came back with some poppy seeds. Surprisingly, she placed them down in from of Dawnsghost. "Eat these; it's bad enough having a worried medicine cat, a shocked apprentice, and a she-cat in pain! We don't need a fussing tom, too. These will calm you down a bit so I can think." The den was a little crowded with four cats in it, making it stuffy and difficult to breath comfortably. Taking in deep breaths, Wolfpelt shut out the noises around her and began to think everything over.

All the while the pair were talking the black cat was fussing around Hawkswing, making sure she was comfortable and that they had enough of each and every herb that was associated with kittings, and a few others just in case. The tom was particularly panicky but a wave of glorious relief washed over him as Wolfpelt came skidding headfirst into the den. She was the expert, she would know how to fix everything. He let Hawkswing and Dawnsghost fill her in and patiently waited his turn to update the medicine cat.
'Thank StarClan you're here Wolfpelt, I've given her poppy seeds for the pain and thyme to calm her down. She's not very far along so I gave her borage to help her milk, otherwise there wont be enough for the kits.. Dawnsghost is helping out with water and we've got her as comfortable as she can be. We've got all the right herbs and plenty of them, is there anything I've forgotten?' he said very fast, trying to get as much information out of his mouth as possible in a very short space of time. As he talked he crouched down next to Hawkswing, pressing his pelt to hers in an attempt to calm her and keep her body temperature normal. His eyes darted around the small den as if hoping that some kind of miracle cure or solution would suddenly pop out of thin air with instructions and a do-it-yourself booklet.
Unfortunately this was the real world and it didn't happen.

Wolfpelt walked over to her apprentice and placed a paw lightly on top of his head. "Calm down, Singleflame! Do you need poppy seeds, as well?" she meowed. She really wanted everyone to just stop. Stop and let her think. "Everyone, just be quiet! Let me think," Wolfpelt meowed. She slipped down next to Hawkswing.
"Now how are you feeling? Where do you hurt? Is there any other place that hurts besides your belly?" Wolfpelt whispered soothingly into Hawkswing's ear. She stroked the she-cat gently with her shaggy tail.

Licking up the poppy seeds presented to him, Dawnsghost almost instantly felt their calming effect. Speaking to Wolfpelt he said, 'She can't have been carrying long, we've only really just become mates.' Then noting how stuffy it was in the den, he padded to the entrance and sat down just outside, in a place with a clear view of what was happening both in the clearing and where his mate lay.

Leafstar padded out of the Nursery, her kits following close behind. By now they were starting to cause trouble, rolling along the whole Nursery floor and bothering Snowynight and her kits. And Dragonkit was the one who usually started it. Just now, he was batting his tail at his sister, Waterkit. "Dragonkit, leave your sister alone," the leader meowed fiercely. The little tabby tom lowered his head and complained, "I was only playing with her."
Leafstar sat down near the Apprentices Den, for there were no apprentices so her kits had no one to bother. Immediately Dragonkit started to pounce on Waterkit, asking to play-fight. The tabby leader sighed and looked around the clearing, and she noticed Dawnsghost sitting at the entrance of the Medicine Cat's Den, looking extremely anxious. She wondered what was going on, so she stood up and told her kits, "Both of you, sit put while i go see something. If I see you do anything else, you are going to be in big trouble!"
The leader rushed over to the Medicine Cat's Den and looked at the russet tom and asked him, "What's happening?" She looked inside the den and saw Hawkswing laying on the floor, in obvious pain. Wolfpelt and Singleflame where besides her. By the tension in the air, she knew it was serious. Again, she repeated her question, "What's happening?" while padding deeper into the den.

'No Wolfpelt I'm okay thank you' the black tom mewed, quietly but confidently. He'd hoped he'd never see another kitting go so horribly wrong as the last one but maybe his luck was out this afternoon. He let his mentor gather her thoughts and padded over to Leafstar to answer her question.
'Hawkswing's kits are coming, but they're early, much too early.. she's had all the herbs we can give her, I think the rest will be up to mother nature' he whispered, sounding grave. He didn't really want Dawnsghost overhearing. Looking back at the struggling queen his eyes were pricked with tears, she was such a good Warrior and a very caring cat all round.. it would be a dreadful blow to the entire Clan if she was lost and the effect that losing kits could have on a mother..
It didn't bear thinking about.

Hawkswing noticed how stressed the gthering cats were and Leafstar had now come to see what was happening. She liked the leader and was glad of her support. "Well i ah feel slightly dizzy in my head" she mewed weakly as another spasm of pain shook her " but the herbs seem to be working." Looking out at the sunny day outside she met eyes with Dawnsghost and at once there was no need for words. She would survive she told herself. She would survive!

Wolfpelt stood up, shaggy fur shaking as she did so. "Singleflame, we have to proceed with the kitting," she meowed, twisting her head to look at her apprentice. She hadn't wanted it to come down to this, but it had. She ran to the back of her den and returned with cobwebs. We might need these, she thought to herself. She returned to Hawkswing's side and murmured softly into the queen's ear, "Okay, Hawkswing, I need you to push as hard as you can. Ready," she placed a paw on Hawkswing's belly, "Push!" On that note, Wolfpelt tensed and thrust her paw down on the queen's belly with a grunt.

Leafstar offered Hawkswing an encouraging look after the explanation. She hoped everything would be fine. Losing her would be devastating. But she had trust in Wolfpelt and Singleflame. Once they began the kitting, she whispered, "Good luck," and slunk out. She would be back however. Normally kitting was a private event, and she didn't want to intrude. She went back to her kits and announced that they were not going to be outside today, due to her having to do something. Disappointed, her kits led the way back to the Nursery, were she left them in the care of Rookwing. She then hurried out without another word. She headed back to the Medicine Cat's Den and sat outside with Dawnsghost, waiting for the best.

At Wolfpelt's words the black tom took his position beside Hawswing, nodding a solemn farewell to his Leader as she left the den. He sat next to the queen but in the opposite direction to her, pressing his body against her again for comfort and support. He tensed himself as Wolfpelt began to intervene, aiming he supposed, to get the kits out as soon as possible to relieve Hawkswing and ensure nothing went too badly wrong with the little fluff balls themselves. He noted the stash of cobwebs that his mentor had fetched from the back of the den and blinked away the bad memories, his brow furrowing as he told himself to think of the here and now. It would not do Hawkswing any good for him to be daydreaming and getting over-emotional. It would not change the past. In Singleflames head however, if he could save just one life today, it may be a chance to make up for what had happened before, almost like a second chance for the kits whose eyes had never even opened and seen the world that they had lost.

Nodding a greeting to his leader as she sat beside him, Dawnsghost meowed anxiously, 'Whats happening in there? Is everything okay?'
