Leafstar softly answered Dawnsghost's question, not wanting to upset him. "They have begun the kitting. Normally the Queen doesn't like any to be there unless its the Medicine Cat's, so I suggest you don't enter. Even I didn't want Cycloneheart with me when I was kitting."

Dawnghost nodded - he had been expecting that - and continued to stare into space, acting as if he was there for no reason at all. Doing that took his mind off what was happening just a few metres away.

>sorry! i haven't been here coz i had cozins and family from auzzi down!!! XD<
Hawkswing nodded to Leafstar as she exited and all at once felt a sharp jabbing pain as Wolfpelt pressed down hard on her stomach. Yowling in pain she did as the Medicine Cat told her and pushed. Faintly she saw Dawnsghost outside the den before her eyes clouded over in pain.

The race was on. Wolfpelt screeched orders at her apprentice, "Be ready, Singleflame! Come on Hawkswing! YES!" she almost danced when the first bundle came. She nipped the sack and yowled over to Singleflame, "Singleflame, you know what to do. Lick!" She turned back to the queen. "Don't worry, Hawkswing, you're doing great. Now, push again; I'll yowl with you." Wolfpelt found that if you yowl with the queen, they feel more confident for some reason. Pinching her eyes shut, Wolfpelt pushed on the queen,s belly and yowled.
The second bundle came at last. "Leafstar, Dawnsghost! Get in here!" She was almost barking orders. She didn't take notice that she had just ordered her leader, this was her domain, so the wolf-cat made that rules. She nipped open the sack on the bundle and scooped it up, only to set it down once more in front of Leafstar. "Lick. Dawnsghost, you get the last one." Turning back to the exhausted queen, Wolfpelt hoped she had enough energy to do this one last time. Placing a paw back in place, Wolfpelt yowled a loud, "For StarClan's sake, push!" Wolfpelt thrust and shrieked.
The third bundle was tough, but it finally came. Wolfpelt nipped the sack and placed the bundle in front of its father. "Congratulations, you're a father of three." She smiled weakly and turned to her apprentice. "Singleflame would you fetch some strengthening herbs for Hawkswing?" her voice was weak, and the shaggy cat finally collapsed. Then, everything when black as she passed out.
OOC:: Sorry, I kinda power played... I didn't want to put like two sentences and then wait...

Shock was written all over Dawnsghosts face as the wet bundle was placed in front of him. Moving by example, he began licking the kits fur from tail to head to get it's blood moving. 'It's a girl' he murmured to Hawkswing. He dimly noticed that the Medicine Cat had collapsed with fatigue, but most of his attention was on the tiny furball infront of him. She gave a wet cough then started to breathe properly, air whistling quickly in and out of her tiny mouth. Joy was written all over Dawnghost's face as his daughter opened her midnight blue eyes and looked at him.

Leafstar ran into the Den, and she immediately knew what to do even without Wolfpelt telling her. She began to lick the wet bundle, until at last the little tom was taking its first breaths. She knew that whenever she would see him from now on, she would see this little kit. She watched Wolfpelt collapse, and she saw Hawkswing still on the ground. It must have been a hard birth, as she was still breathing heavily. Leafstar looked at Singleflame, who was getting herbs. She gave him an urgent look that told him that the queen was in danger. With Wolfpelt passed out, he was responsible. She didn't want to place all that preassure on him, but he unfortunetely had it. "Hurry!" she urged.
Then she looked at Dawnsghost and told him, "Help Singleflame as much as you can. I'll take the kits." Scooping up the kit in her mouth, Leafstar gathered the three kits by her side, herding them towards her stomach, where they could suckle. They were tinier than normal, so they would need more attention. She looked over at their mother, hoping for the best.

(ooc: sorry I'm late!)
Already in perfect position as the first kit came, Singleflame didn't even hear Wolfpelt as she told him what to do - he knew already. Grabbing the kit by the scruff as gently and hurriedly as possible given the circumstances he pulled it towards him and began licking it's fur the wrong way up. This effect made it look more like a hedgehog than a kit, but it was perfect for getting the circulation going. He kept going and going, not caring about anything else that was going on around him, his attention was firmly focused on reviving the little soggy bundle between his forepaws. After several long minutes, during which Dawnsghost and Leafstar had also been given charges to look after, the first kit was still not breathing.
'Come on little tom, take a breath..' he urged, turning the kit onto it's back in desperation and beginning to lick it's chest, pushing harder than was normally necessary. He felt it shudder beneath him and momentarily stopped, his heart in his mouth. As he watched, the fragile body in front of him rose and fell once. It was the smallest of movements but it was life, and the black apprentice sent his silent thanks to StarClan for it. At Wolfpelt's words he turned his back on the kit to face the pile of herbs he'd already stashed nearby, just in case of need.
'Dawnsghost, we'll need more water, Wolfpelt will need some too. Leafstar-' the tom had turned round, his mouth full of poppy seeds, thyme and borage leaves to see his leader already taking care of the kits. He smiled briefly before spewing the saliva coated mixture into Hawkswing's mouth, closing it gently with one paw and rubbing her throat to help her swallow. He then took a small amount of thyme over to Wolfpelt, chewing it and repeating the action with her, making sure it was all gone before turning his attention back to the queen and her kits. He bent over Hawkswing, carefully examining her. It seemed there were no other complications so he moved on to the kits. He nudged each in turn, sniffing and poking them with his black nose, especially the little tom he'd been given. The other two seemed like strong healthy kits, they had barely taken any time at all to revive, but although the oldest, his kit was the smallest and appeared not as enthusiastic to suckle.
'Keep an eye on that little tom for me Leafstar, I'm not sure about him. If he stops suckling let me know, and monitor his breathing as best you can. If it starts getting uneven or just stops, yell for all of StarClan' Singleflame's yellow eyes passed over the floppy form of his mentor without a doubt that she'd be okay. He had eyes only for Hawkswing now. The mess in the den was terrible. He removed the blood soaked moss from around her and replaced it with the fresher stuff from his own nest, pushing the rest into a corner and making a mental note to ask Dawnsghost to help clear up the afterbirth as soon as he returned with water.

Amber eyes opened a crack as the wolf-cat came back to the awakening world. She had the bitter tang of herb on her mouth and she felt stronger, and agitated that Singleflame had used herbs on her. She didn't want to admit that she was grateful for the extra boost. Placing her large paws beneath her, Wolfpelt rose and steadied herself. Looking around, she saw that the black tom had gotten every thing under control without her. She allowed a smile to creep onto her face. Maybe I should faint more often, the she-cat mused.
Starting to take a step, Wolfpelt felt light headed. She groaned and laid down once more. She dropped her head onto her paws and called to Singleflame,"Singleflame, I'll keep an eye on Hawkswing. You fetch some more moss and build her a new nest." She crawled over to the queen and pressed an ear to Hawkswing's chest. Monitoring her breaths, Wolfpelt realized that the mother was breathing hard, but it was steady and slowing down to regular. "Good," was the only word that left her muzzle. She stayed next to Hawkswing, but stayed out of the kits' ways. She set her head on her paws and waited for everything to unfold before her.

Leafstar looked as Wolfpelt regained conciousness and crawled over to Hawkswing. Hearing her say "good" out loud made her feel much better. She looked down at the three little kits now sleeping at her side. They were tucked into her belly, warm and safe now. She was really glad that they looked healthy. Even the oldest one, which Singleflame had asked her to have a careful eye on, seemed better after nursing. She looked at Hawkswing, wondering if it was ok for her to take care of her kits now. Although she had no problem watching over the newborns, she felt bad that the kits weren't able to nurse and sleep by their mother's side right after their birth. Seeing as Wolfpelt was still awake, she whispered softly, "Wolfpelt, is it alright for me to bring the kits over to Hawkswing's side now?"

At the sound of her leader's voice, Wolfpelt lifted her head. "Yes, Hawkswing is resting peacefully now, so it shouldn't disturb the kits." She leaned over and assisted Leafstar in moving the three kits over to their mother. Wolfpelt gently pressed the kits up to their mother to keep warm.
"Thank you, Leafstar. If you wish you may go, or you may stay. I do not mind," the shaggy cat whispered. She guessed that the leader needed to announce the arrival of three newborns. But somewhere in Wolfpelt's subconscious, she wished for her leader to stay so Wolfpelt would have some company.
OOC:: Short, I know...

Coming back in with a large bundle of water-soaked moss, he laid some next to Hawkswing and the rest next to Wolfpelt. Before she could protest he said firmly'You need water. If you hadn't noticed, you just passed out and need a strength booster.' He didn't care that he was speaking to his Medicine Cat, he spoke as he would to a fellow warrior. That done. He sat beside his mate and licked her ear, murmuring about how great the kits were already and how she was a great mother.

Leafstar nodded and obeyed, raising the oldest first in her mouth. She placed next to her mother and slightly nudged him into her belly. Then she came back for the last one and did the same. Finally seeming like she wasn't needed anymore, the tabby leader looked at the entrance then at Wolfpelt. She looked tired. "You did great," she purred. Then she turned to Singleflame and meowed, "You did great too. Thank StarClan we have such great Medicine Cats." Then she laid down near Wolfpelt. "I'll announce the birth in a little bit."

Wolfpelt opened her jaw to protest, but Dawnsghost cut her off. She sighed and sipped at the cold water, the iced taste feeling good on her throat. She glanced up at the father and murmured a thank you, then watched as Leafstar settled beside her. She smirked and rested her head down again. She was thankful that this birth went well. Thank you, StarClan, for not letting life slip away before it happened, she prayed. Her mind flew back to the half moon and she gasped slightly.
"That's what he was telling me. Hawkswing's birth was what he was telling me," she mewed. "Huh, weird."

Sitting next to Hawkswing, Dawnsghost heard the Medicine Cat suddenly say 'That's what he was telling me. Hawkswing's was what he was telling me.' and then something else that was to quiet to hear. 'What do you mean, Wolfpelt?' he asked curiously.

Wolfpelt perked up a bit at Dawnsghost's remark. "Oh, nothing. It was part of a dream I had, that's all." Wolfpelt watched the kits and their breathing.

Hawkswing opened her eyes a couple of hours after the birth and looked down to see three kits snuggling up against her. Still feeling slightly light head she blinked slowly and looked the the gathered cats. "Thank you" she mewed, the strongness already creeping back to her voice.
