'All cats old enough to catch their own prey come to Stream Rock for a clan meeting.' The call cut through the tranquil air surrounding the Riverclan camp as Ebonstar, Clan leader, jumped neatly on top of the mentioned rock. Wolfblaze had dissappeared, believed to be dead, and it was time for her to choose a new Deputy. She had been watching all of her warriors during the morning and she had come to a decision. Her tail gave an agitated swish as she pondered on how to break the news to her clan.

Nightstorm dashed out into the clearing from the warriors den. She was eager to find out who the new deputy would be. She perched herself a couple tail-lengths from Stream Rock and looked up expectantly to Ebonstar. It was a mysterious thing how Wolfblaze was gone...Nightstorm started thinking about it until the Clan meeting would start. She scanned the clearing, looking for any other cats who were emerging from their dens or coming from different places throughout the camp to hear what Ebonstar had to say.

A light breeze was picking up. Blowing the ferns softly. A single brown tail flicked in surprise as the slender ebony she-cat emerged from the den and leaped up onto the rock that stood higher than the camp. The white head of a certain tom swung round to face his leader. His emerald eyes glimmering in the sunshine. 'All cats old enough to catch their own prey come to Stream Rock for a clan meeting' Ebonstar's voice rang out loud and clear. Echoing against the few trees surrounding the camp. Earthsplash was sitting on a sandy bank. But at his leaders calling, he heaved himself to his paw and nimbly leaped over the river. Landing delecatley over the other side of the small stream.
He flicked his white ears and padded forward, he placed himself in a nice comfy spot. Then he bought up a single brown paw, got out his soft pink tounge, then rasped it over the paw. He then bought it over his right ear, and then licked his paw again and repeated this process afew times until he was sure his ear was clean enough. He has not long ago been rolling in damp sand with the kits, and so his ears were a bit mucky. He then did the same with the other paw. After this he looked up at his leader and awaited her to continue.

Lunarflight padded over to Earthsplash, her eyes wide. "Hey," she murmured, "Did I miss anything?" She looked around, but failed to see many cats. Good, I didn't miss much then, she thought happily settling herself beside her mate.

Sitting on the top of Stream Rock, Ebonstar pondered on who she had chosen to fill the vacancy left by Wolfblaze. The cat she had chosen was a loyal warrior - though that described most of her clan - and was expereinced enough so that if she became part of StarClan suddenly, they would be able to cope with 'unexpected' leadership. Watching her clan gather in the clearing, she felt a strange sadness. There would be a time when she left Riverclan and joined her warrior ancestors in Silverpelt, but she hoped that time would not be soon.

Panting as he arrived from Mothermouth, Skyfeather noticed his Leader up on the Stream Rock, his Clanmates gathering around him. Shrugging, he went and sat beside Nightstorm and looked at her curiously. "Hello, Nightstorm. What's going on?" he asked the she-cat softly, waiting for Ebonstar to speak. |

Lunarflight watched the cats gather, and focused on her leader. Ebonstar was a brave cat, strong in battle and calm under pressure. Whoever was chosen as deputy had to be all of these things, RiverClan wouldn't function without a leader like Ebonstar. "Hurry up Ebonstar," she murmured, glancing at the nursery. She wanted to be back with her kits.

Earthsplash's snow white ears twitched in amusement at his mates impacience. "Calm down Lunarflight" he padded over to the black queen. Murmuring in her ear softly. "The kits are fine. Riverclan won't let anything happen to them" he brushed his soft muzzle against her delecate ear. Then he retracted his head from his mates face. His emerald gaze turned to the nursery i'm sure i have enough time to check on our kits he thought thoughtfully. He slowly turned his brown and white body and placed one brown paw in front of the other, moving forward, until he reached the brambles that surrounded the nursery. He poked his slender head round the bramble screen and peaked inside. Tiny bundles of fur were crouched close together. Rising and falling in rhythm of eachother as they silently slept. The fathers ear drooped slightly, he cast his loving gaze over them. But then he had to part. I don't want to miss the meeting he said to himself grudgeingly. He turned his body slowly, constantly looking over his shoulder as he padded back toward his mate. "They're fine" he murmered, nudgeing his mate gentley in a comferting way. Ever since he had a mate, Earthsplash had opened up, you could now see the real side to him. What is this meeting about? is all he could think of as he looked up at his leader, awaiting her to continue.

"Oh hello, Skyfeather," Nightstorm glanced at the cat who appeared beside her. He was breathing heavily and she realized he had just gotten back from the medicine cat meeting. "Ebonstar is going to announce the new RiverClan deputy," she replied excitedly. Her piercing blue eyes examined the tired looking Skyfeather before she turned her gaze up to Ebonstar once more.

Mistydream crept out of the warriors den and lay on the grass in front of her leader. A new Deputy huh? she mused. She hoped this one wouldn't dissapear like Wolfblaze. She was a great Deputy!

As most of her Clan was present, Ebonstar began the meeting. 'As you know, Wolfblaze has left us for an unknown reason, and a new deputy must be elected. Stepping forward until her paws hooked over the edge of Stream Rock, she meowed loud enough for all to hear 'I say these words before StarClan, that the spirits of our ancestors may hear and approve my choice. Earthsplash will be the new RiverClan Deputy, and if Wolfblaze returns, he will take a place as a Warrior, and nothing more.'

Earthsplash looked up in astonishment. He hadn't expected to be named deputy! He slowly padded forward, shocked at the thought of him having that much power. Slowly he clamered up the rock that held his great leader, ebonstar. Her ebony pelt was glowing with pride as she had annouced him as deputy. "Thankyou Ebonstar" he bowed his head to the magnificent she-cat. He managed to keep his voice steady as he let it all sink in. Then he turned and faced Riverclan, lots of eyes were staring at him, there seemed to be millions. But he knew there wasn't. "Although i was not expecting this, i will stil do they best i can to serve and protect this clan and make it easier on Ebonstar!" his voice rang out clear. "This morning i woke up a warrior, but i will be going to sleep as deputy!"

Mistydream was shocked. Earthsplash?! Dont get her wrong he was a good warrior but not someone she expected to be chosen as deputy. From the look on his face he obviously hadn't expected it either.
Pushing that thought aside she yoled: ' Earthsplash, Earthsplash!!'

Lunarflight bounded forward to touch noses with her mate, eyes bright with delight. "Congratulations Earthsplash, you will be a marvellous deputy, I am sure." Stepping back she joined in Mistydream's chant, although she was a little concerned about waking her sleeping kits. Still, Earthsplash had said they were okay.
