The sun shone brightly, its warmth radiating outwards, quenching the grip the cool night had upon the Earth. The river burbled peacefully as Ebonstar approached, her heated breath creating small white clouds in front of her face. She could hear birds singing joyfully and her heart leapt at the sound, at the promise of a warm and plentiful Newleaf. She saw there was an unusual amount of sand near the banks of the river, blocking her path to her favourite hunting area, near Windclans border. ‘That’s odd’ she thought, stopping at the edge of the large expanse of sand. ‘But seeing as it’s here, I’ll just have to go over it.’ She took a deep breath, wondering why she was so nervous. ‘We’re on good terms with Windclan, so they aren’t going to attack me if I accidentally go in to their territory’ the thought ran through her mind unbidden, shocking herself with the accuracy of her subconscious. She gathered her courage and strode forward in to the sand.
The sand was unnaturally warm for early morning, a thing she noted down but paid no attention to. Her paws sunk a couple of millimetres down then hit solid ground, giving her added traction if she needed to flee. She strode forwards and suddenly felt the sand moving out from underneath her, and her body slipping down, sinking in to the sand. She yowled in fear as the sand tightened its grip on her. She heard thundering paws and saw a black body shooting out of the scrub bordering the two clan territories. Then the sand closed over her face and she saw no more.
Nightfeather flung himself out of the bushes that marked the border between his clan and Riverclan, just in time to see a delicate black head disappearing into the sand, green eyes wide with terror. He sprinted over to the sand, which he recognised as quicksand, and stood on the edge of the sand, looking for a safe path to where the cat had gone under. Nightfeather found one and ran over, all the while crying out for help. He plunged his paw down and felt the other cat’s soft coat. His long claws dug in to their pelt and started to heave, throwing his head down to have another hold on the cat. Loud coughing erupted near his face as the other cats head cleared the surface. Recognition hit him as he realised that it was Riverclans leader, Ebonstar, who had fallen prey to the quicksand and the shock almost caused him to drop her back into the sand. He regained his grip and kept tugging at her scruff, doubling his efforts to get her out.

Nightstorm was taking a walk toward the WindClan border, it was a nice day out and she wasn't doing anything, so that's how her walk begun. She walked through the grass; it was nice and fresh with Newleaf and the coming Greenleaf. The sun burned her pelt, attracted to her dark fur. She was nearing the cliff that reminded her she was coming fairly close to the WindClan border. Suddenly a yowl pierced the warm air. It sounded like her leader. Nightstorm ran down to the stream, noticing the warm sand underfoot. Suddenly a black cat ran out of the bushes and heaved her leader up. She took a pawstep forward and sunk down. With a jolt of fear she realized she'd have to go around the sand to help the black WindClan cat get her leader out. She ran to Ebonstar and grabbed hold of her, helping the other cat drag her away from the sand that wanted to take hold of Nightstorm's leader.

The camp was quiet. The sun's beams were slicing through the leafs of the trees above the camp. Desperatly trying to reach the cats below. Many were succsessful, as they were heating up a certain toms pelt. This percific tom was a white well-built cat who looked liked he had trecked in mud. This lazy tom uncurled himself and looked over at the fresh kill pile. Empty. I may as well go hunting he thought to himself. Shifting his weight many times, he managed to heave himself onto 4 paws and drag himself over to the fresh kill pile. "One sparrow" he started mublimling to himself wow thats rare he thought about the sparrow "and a small fish. Not much" he concluded mumbly.
Dragging his 4 brown paws and one white paw he trekked out of the camp enterance, nodding to the guard. Earthsplash padded on slowly, taking in all the wonderful scents and sounds of the river. There he saw a rabbit cross the border between Riverclan and Windclan. Exellent he thought as his paws sped up, until he reached the boobing tail of the rabbit. And as soon as he was about to pounce and catch it, the rabbit made its get away across the border. Earthsplash looked upset and down about this, his first chance to catch a rabbit. Gone. With his head and tail low he turned and looked over his shoulder at where the rabbit dissapeared to. As he did so his eyes scanned around him, and he heard a low wail of needed help. His perfect emerald eyes flicked back toward a scene he would've prefered not to see. His leader was being drowned by two other cats.
Earthsplash couldn't believe it, they were on good terms with Windclan, and Nightstorm was in Windclan! Filled with anger he pelted across to his leaders side, but as he did so. His heart skipped a beat. He realised that his leader wasn't being attacked, no, instead it was much much worst. His leader was drowning. Bending down near the precious body of Ebonstar, he opened his mouth and gripped onto Ebonstar's scruff. Planting his paws firmly into the mud, he hauled with all his might. His paws slipping in the mud, yet his powerful muscles were straining under his thin pelt. Don't die! he pleaded Starclan please let her live!

Nightstorm noticed Earthsplash helping the two cats get Ebonstar out of the terrible sand. She blinked gratefully at Earthsplash for his help. Three cats was sure to get Ebonstar out. Nightstorm was starting to get tired, but she couldn't give up. She gave another powerful tug and Ebonstar seemed to be coming pretty close coming out completely. She sent a silent prayer to StarClan Please StarClan, help us..

Everything was a blur, a swirl of colours and emotions, pain, fear, and guilt that she hadn't thought to check the sand before running in. After what seemed like years, the vortex of shapes and sounds seemed to slow down and began to fix itself in one place. Groaning quietly, Ebonstar began to struggle weakly at the tugging at her fur, trying to meow, Stop, it hurts but only a murmur emerged. The darkness pressed down on her but she pushed it back, trying to swim to full conciousness. The darkness shoved again, and she tumbled back into the depths of her mind.
Nightfeather was greatful to the unknown Riverclan warriors who had joined him, but didn't pause to chat, instead doubling his efforts. Finally, the she-cat was to be free of the insistent tug of the quicksand and seemed to be regaining conciousness. But no, the Riverclan leader had slipped away again. He picked her up with the help of the other two and began a slow march, not unlike that of a funeral procession, to the water-covered camp.
>appologies if that was god-modding!<

<im afraid it was =/>
The tug had seiced. Two gaping jaws had opened and then closed. A loud flop sounded and whisps of dust flew away in a circular shape. Earthsplash had let go of his leader, and had allowed his legs to fall outwards. Flopping down and desperatley gasping in air. His sides heaving with the effort, his muscles screaming in agony. And then protest as he got up to check his leader, however Nightfeather had begun to place his head under the sodden body of Ebonstar, so Earthsplash joined in. Grabbing the middle of the slender body and sliding it onto his, now muddy, back. His whole body had now gone brown instead of just half of him. Then he hoped everyone else would help, as he started to trek toward camp.

Nightstorm picked up Ebonstar, her muscles protesting. She slowly started walking back to the camp, with Nightfeather and Earthsplash helping carry Ebonstar. It was quite a long way back, but Nightstorm was determined not to let go. She started to get dizzy but kept putting one paw in front of the other. She saw the camp way off in the distance and hoped someone would spot them and come to help. Thank StarClan we got her in time at least.. she thought. That was the most optimistic thing she could think of as she struggled to move on.

> Sorry!!< Nightfeather was tiring, his muscles aching from his exertions. His breath was coming fast as Nightstorm, Earthsplash and he made their way to the hidden Riverclan camp. His neck hurt from holding even part of the prone she-cat's weight after dragging her out of the sand, and his vision was blurring with fatigue. With a small grunt, he moved Ebonstar back to the highest point on his shoulders and continued, not wanting to seem weak infront of the Riverclan warriors.

Nightstorm was about ready to drop Ebonstar. The camp wasn't far away by now. Just a little longer... she thought. From up ahead she saw a blur of two cats racing towards them. Thank StarClan! Nightstorm started to slow down, her neck and paws aching. What was she doing? Slowing down was only stopping them up. She had to help the small group of cats get Ebonstar back to camp; the sooner the better! She straightened up and walked slightly faster, as fast as she could handle at the moment. They were close to camp by now, and everyone seemed to be sore and slowing down. Nightstorm closed her eyes and just kept walking.
