The sun was bright out as Dawnsghost padded out of the camp, glancing over his shoulder to be sure his eager apprentice Dragonpaw was following. Greenleaf itself was in his step as he made his way over to the training hollow and sat, waiting impatiently for his apprentice.

This was the first time he had been out in ThunderClan territory without his mother, so Dragonpaw was very excited. Soon he'd be able to go out hunting by himself! He knew it was a great responsibility, but he also knew that it was necessarily for the clan to prosper. Today however, as his first training lesson, he was going to be taught how to fight!
He had always been the best fighter while in the Nursery. His sister preferred hunting, and so it was mostly Smokekit, Ivykit, and him play-fighting. He would always win. Filled with confidence, Dragonpaw approached his mentor. He had always admired Dawnsghost. He was really big and strong and although he had never seen him fight, he could bet that the warrior was amazing in battle.
"Ok, I'm ready," he announced as he stood before the russet tom. His paws were still eager to be moving about, so he hoped they started soon.

'Right, go ahead and attack me. I want to see what you can do. I've heard of your reputation in the nursery.' Dawnsghost could see that Dragonpaw was excited, and he braced himself for the apprentice's first attack. He wanted to see just what his reaction was to fighting someone bigger, stronger, and more experienced.

Dragonpaw immediately crouched into what he liked to call "The Dragon's Crouch." From there, he was in the advantage. If someone lunged at him, he could easily jump up and land on their backs or head for their throats. But seeing how much bigger his newest opponent was, he gulped a little. But it was just his first training session, so he wasn't too worried, for he had time to learn.
He waited for a couple of heart-beats and then raced under Dawnsghost. He knew the warrior might just lay down and crush him, so he had to act fast. he raked his sheathed paw across his belly, then as he rushed out from behind, he also raked his paw against the warrior's back legs. Then he turned around, back into his crouch, waiting for the warrior's reaction.

It took all of his will not to flop down on top of Dragonpaw, but the warrior managed to restrain himself. Feeling sheathed paws run across first his stomach, then his hind legs, he jumped away and quickly meowed 'Don't stop attacking, ever. It could get you injured or even killed' before lunging at the apprentice. Dawnsghost jumped up and over Dragonpaw and spun around quickly when he landed. As he turned, he flicked out a paw and knocked the apprentices legs out from under him. Stepping back, he waited warily for him to get up, and added on - 'That was a good attack though, I wasn't expecting it. We need to work on your strength when you go for the legs though. I want you to do the same thing again, but put more power behind your swipes. You won't hurt me.' The russet tom grinned showing all of his teeth, but that was involuntary. It wasn't his fault his teeth were long, was it?

Surprised at how quick his mentor attacked, Dragonpaw didn't realize as he was suddenly on the floor. He wasn't down there long though, for he sprang back up immediately. Satisfaction entered him as Dawnsghost complimented his move. Then he listened to his advice and crouched down again, ready to try. He made his muscles stiff and waited, trying to not give away when he would attack. Then- out of nowhere, he lunged under the warrior's belly. he scraped his belly, and then with all of his force- he raked his whole paw against his legs. Even he could see that it was one strong attack.

The attack was sudden, Dawnsghost would give him that. It was strong as well, much stronger than he was used to from a new apprentice. He stumbled slightly as his legs suddenly dissappeared from beneath him, and used that as an excuse to drop and roll away. 'Much better' he meowed, panting slightly, then continued on. 'It seems like you have this attack well under control, so now I will teach you a counter to it.' Jumping back to his feet, he told the apprentice to repeat the move - 'But see if you can slow it down, so you can watch how I can turn it into my own attack.'

Dragonpaw was very proud of himself for accomplishing that feat. Then he nodded as Dawnsghost gave him other instructions. Again, he crouched down and waved his tail continuously to try to divert his mentor's attention. Then again, he rushed underneath his mentor with less speed, awaiting the counter attack as he continued with the move.

As Dragonpaw moved in to repeat the attack, Dawnsghost leapt up and away, moving his vunerable belly out of the apprentices range. As he came down just to the left of Dragonpaw, he spun around so he was facing him, the movement coupling nicely with a paw that was brought out and dragged lightly over the top of Dragonpaws head. 'The trick to this is timing, and once you've got it, there's nothing the other cat can do. Now, I'm going to attack you, and I want you to give what I just did a try. It doesn't matter if I get you at the moment, so concentrate on getting it right.'

Dragonpaw watched Dawnsghost move with amazement. He hoped some day he could make up moves as suddenly as his mentor did. Then he nodded as he listened to the russet tom telling him to try it. He meowed a quick "Okay," and then crouched slightly, waiting for his mentor to attack.

Dawnsghost jumped, moving slower than normal to allow Dragonpaw to get into position and repeat the counter. His apprentice was a fast learner, and he knew it would make the younger cat an extremely good warrior.

Once he was ready, Dragonpaw gave his mentor a slight nod and waited for it.
[very sorry its short. Not much to say]

Dawnsghost slid under the apprentices belly, cursing at the lack of space. His paw came up, claws sheathed, and moved to scrape along Dragonpaw's belly. The russet tom slowed down so the younger cat could complete the counter.

Dragonpaw was ready for the attack. Once the older tom was under him, he leaped up high in the air and landed straight on Dawnsghost's neck. He had added the neck part instead of on the ground because he thought it would be better because he was smaller. He cuffed his ears and then jumped off, landing next to the warrior, but also scraping his paw down the warrior's head lightly. With a deep breath afterwards, he asked, "How was that?"

Even though the move differed from his own, Dawnsghost nodded thoughtfully and said, 'Very quick thinking, Dragonpaw. That was very good, especially as I am larger than you. Well done. Now, again.' As he finished speaking, he leapt towards the apprentice, moving under him again and flicking his paw up to strike.

Dragonpaw took in his mentor's words of praise and therefore was barely ready when the russet tomleaped at him again. He narrowly managed to complete the attack, and almost fell when he was done. His ears drooped slightly at disappointment that he wasn't ready, but it also gave him determination. "Sorry I wasn't ready. It'll never happen again." Those words were a promise to himself, so that he could be the best warrior possible.

'It's okay to make mistakes when your just starting. We'll keep running through it so it sticks in your head.' Dawnsghost looked at his apprentices hanging ears and said, 'You wanna keep going, or take a break?'

"No, I want to keep going." He raised his ears and flexed his claws to show that he was ready. He was barely even tired.

'Good. I'm going to repeat the attack, and I want you to repeat either counter. We'll keep going until you can get it right 3 out of 5 times.' and with that, he attacked again, the only warning being his breath coming slower and becoming barely audible.

Nodding eagerly, Dragonpaw obeyed, and for a long while, the two toms trained until Dragonpaw was as good as Dawnsghost with that particular move. The sun was farther down in the sky and dusk was approaching when the dark tabby finally sat, finished with his first fighting lesson. He gave a deep sigh before looking at his mentor. "What are we going to do tomorrow?" he asked curiously.

Sitting next to Dragonpaw, the russet tom said, 'I'll probably take you on a trip around our borders so you know exactly where they are. We can't have you wandering into Riverclan territory, can we?' Hauling himself back up, Dawnsghost spoke again, 'We should probably get back before anyone starts to worry.'

Dragonpaw was excited yet again, for he would learn the borders of ThunderClan territory tomorrow! He was really happy to at last be an apprentice, and he knew that he would help clean out the dens with a bounce in his paws because everyday he got closer to becoming a warrior. "Okay," he replied, standing up. His paws felt hot and heavy and he knew he would be sore tomorrow, but it was fine to him. He looked at the direction he thought camp was, but waited for Dawnsghost to lead because he wasn't too sure.

Watching the apprentice light up, he decided it had been a good choice to take Dragonpaw on the 'tour' the next day. Grinning at the him, Dawnsghost padded in the direction Dragonpaw was facing. 'Good of you to know the way back to camp already, so come on!' he praised as he moved past him.

Dragonpaw grinned as his mentor said that it was good he knew the way. His first training session had been a success, and he was just ready to go back to camp. He jumped up and bounded after Dawnsghost, the forest floor cool to his pads. When they arrived at camp, he looked at his mentor and asked, "Should I do anything before I go take a rest?"

Looking around, Dawnsghost could see nothing that was urgently in need of doing. 'Unless you can think of anything, you can go straight on in. I want you to be up bright and early tomorrow morning.' He turned and padded slowly away, wanting to visit Hawkswing in the nursery with their kits before turning in himself.
