The Shadowed Falls tumbled noisily, the sound of water crashing into water being heard above everything else. The great falls had refused to freeze over, thus they still were busy working, dumping water down the slope. Undersized paws carefully picked their way around the rocks that littered the ground, wide yellow eyes watching closely. The orbs of eyes were as glossy as the water, misery filling their pits. A small tom, his golden brown tabby pelt slowly becoming damp, slid his way down to the water's edge. His spotted paws stopped only a tail length from the riverside, the murmur of the water becoming gentle as he padded further away from the falls. He had never been this way before, but he knew where the territory would end if he walked too far. "Hmn," was the only sound he made. The sound-maker's eyes studied the water, memories flooding back like crashing waves. His sister had drowned in a stream like this. He had been the one doing the drowning. A smile crept to the tom's lips.
Stopping, the little cat reached the smooth parts of the water and sat down. Looking over the rim of the shore, the cat looked down into the reflection that stared back. The tabby stripes that marked his forehead and neck slowly faded into swirls that cascaded down to where the cat couldn't examine in the water. Instead, he looked down at himself, not needing the water. The swirls raced down his body, slowly turning into flecks at his paws. Glancing back up, the tom's yellow eyes scanned the clearing, double checking to be sure no one was there. Early life as a loner had turned Bleakheart, once known as Bleak, into a walking bundle of raw nerves. He had been on the brink of insanity ever since he had been brought to ShadowClan. Of course, living side by side with one of your worst enemies didn't make it any better.
Suddenly, a pain buried itself into Bleakheart's chest, threatening to knock him down. Recoiling, the tom's tail swung protectively around his small body, even though he knew it wouldn't help. Bleakheart had been feeling this pain for some time now. He had concluded it as regret; regret for killing his family, regret for forcing his mother to watch, regret for joining this Clan. He had supposed it had been the sly words of the leader that had dragged him in, her talk of him getting power. If this was power, Bleakheart wanted to be as weak as possible. "Tch," he sounded, his high-pitched meow tight with pain and sorrow. "Get over it. You can't change what happened, right?" If only he really could. He would have changed everything...
