"Hawkswing?" The faint sound was gently called from a shaggy gray figure perched at the entrance to the den. The call was barely above a whisper, not a single thought wanting to wake the small, fluffy bodies inside. It was far too feminine to belong to a tom. The gray cat's amber eyes glanced back and forth, adjusting to the darkness. Once the world became clear, the she-cat lifted her paws and slowly crept in. She slithered silently about until she found herself before the she-cat that she wanted. The scent of illness instantly hit her like an acorn to the head. The pain causing seed cracked open and formed a dread-filled conclusion. The disease was here.
A nose flew down from the gray muzzle and nudged the she-cat soothingly. "Hawkswing, dear," she murmured. Wolfpelt lifted her gaze up to the queen. "Dawnsghost tells me that you're not feeling too well. I need to have a look at you." The last bit was a gentle order, but you had to know the healing cat very well to hear the urgency behind it. Wolfpelt looked down at the small bundles of fur that were curled to their mother's side. I hope that it hasn't spread to them... I can't believe that it has already set in so early in the season. I normally don't expect it for another moon...
Recalling a few days ago, when the weather was calm enough to make one last collection round, the medic had spoken with her apprentice about the weather. She had dreamed about the world freezing over so quickly that no cat could have prepared for it. Frostedpaw had shared that she wasn't feeling too comfortable about the activity outside, either. The two had kept it to themselves, the desire to put the Clan in a panic on zero. Thank StarClan we collected the last good bit of catmint before now. I just hope that it will last the season...

Hawkswing awoke to the soft murmers of the clan medicine cat. She thanked starclan that Wolfpelt was whispering as every loud noise pounded her head. She groggily opened her eyes and let them adjust to the darkness. Realising that the she cat was waiting she mewed a weak "Ok" and led the way out of the nursery. The sun shone almost hatefully into her sore eyes and she headed for the shelter opposite the nusery from which she had just exited. She sat waiting for Wolfpelt, her tail wrapping protectively around her.

Wolfpelt stepped aside as the queen made her way out of the den. Giving one last look to the kits, the gray cat followed Hawkswing at a brisk trot and entered the den behind her. She instantly walked to the back of her den, calling questions softly over her shoulder. "Now, all I know is that you're having a sore throat and you are sensitive to sound. What else is there?" The shaggy cat already had a good idea of what the young feline had, but it was always best to double-check.
Fumbling through the seemingly million scents that were her store of herbs, the healing cat sought out the tempting smell of catmint. She finally found it and grabbed a small amount. There wasn't very much, but she would have to make due; it was going to be a long season. Backing up out of her stash, Wolfpelt set down the bundle at the edge of the neatly stacked plants and turned to face Hawkswing. She kept the herb bundle hidden behind her.

Hawkswing thanked Starclan that Wolfpelt had the decency to speak softly, although she was a Medicine cat so she would know what to to. She followed the she cat further into the den and resumed the sitting position she had taken earlier. The cave smelt stronly of herbs but for once the smell wasn't over whelming unlike plenty of the other smells that had caused her head to spin. The smell of herbs was soothing, relaxing almost. She lifted her head, her eyes following Wolfpelt, before she answered the question. "Well ive been feeling nauseous and loud noises hurt my ears and head, along with jarring. My head is constantly throbbing and as you said my throut hurts. Heavy eyes and paws, although the last might not be as helpfull." she trailed off, worry filling her eyes. She believed in Wolfpelt but if all else failed, she would not blame her.

Wolfpelt listened with her amber eyes shut softly. She nodded once Hawkswing had finished. Now she had to keep her voice very soft. "Wait there," she instructed gently. She turned around and picked up the dose of catmint. The scent made her mouth water. Turning back to the she-cat, Wolfpelt placed the sweet herbs in front of the queen. "Eat those and see if it helps. You'll stay in here so I can keep an eye on you and to help your sound sensitivity problem." The medicine cats' den was always the most peaceful place, next to the elders' den. The she-cat would be better off in here. Suddenly, the queen's kits came to mind, along with Dawnsghost's concern. "Hawkswing," she meowed softly as she padded to the back of her den, "do your kits show any similar signs of what you have?"
Nosing around, the shaggy gray cat found her moss store. Nosing some more, she picked out the freshest bits and rolled them out. Balling them up, Wolfpelt got the bundle under her chin and carried it out to the clearing of the den. Making a nest in a place where the bitter wind wouldn't blow, Wolfpelt fluffed up the outer edges to help the warmth stay in. Looking over her shoulder, the healing cat patted the moss with a paw, signaling for the she-cat to come lay down.

Hawkswing looked at the bundle of herbs that Wolpelt had presented to her. It didn't look like it tasted like a nice juicy rabbit but she knew that there was a possibility that it would help her. As soon as the she-cat mentioned her kits, she stiffened. She had hoped that it wasn't contagious, but judging by what the Medicine cat had said, the possibilty was there. her voice stuttered slightly as she spoke. I-i dont t-think so The pain was there. written over her face at the though of her kits having to go through this. "But maybe you should check just in case"
Still in shock the shell of a cat moved over to where Wolfpelt was indicating and sat down.

Silverkit shivered. The warm presence of his mother was missing and it jarred him from his sleep like when Wildkit pounced on him. Moving carefully so as not to wake his litter-mate Silverkit rose to his paws. He sniffed the air and grimaced at the smell of sickness that came from his mothers empty nest. Fear pounded through his small chest as he searched franticly for her. "Mother?" he hissed softly. Silverkit scented the air again and detected Wolfpelts scent. What had wolfpelt come here for? Scared, Silverkit followed his mothers scent out of the nursery and towards the Medicine Cats den. He entered the den and saw his mother sitting in a pile of moss. "MOTHER!" Silverkit soft screamed. He had noticed how his Mother tended to wince at even the quietest noises so had been careful to always keep his voice down. Silverkit raced across the gap separating them and nosed his mother, licking her face anxiously. "Are you alright?"

Wolfpelt glanced up hurriedly as the kit came tumbling into the den, worry ringing from his pelt. "Shh," she lulled, "you must be quiet. Your mother is fine." Then, an idea struck her. "Silverkit, dear, could you go fetch Wildkit for me? I want you all in here." Wolfpelt groped for words to convince the small kit. "We're going to play a game, and I need all of you here, okay? It'll be fun!" She fanned her tail for emphasis to get going and turned back to Hawkswing. Her eyes did not shift, still taking on the soft, gentle voice that she had with the young kitten.
"He seems to be doing very well, so I'm doubting that he has anything. He is very full of life and, even if he does catch it, he will pull through with flying colors." She smiled softly, her amber gaze trying desperately to hide the worry about what she had just meowed. Silverkit may be fine, but she wasn't so sure about the other kitten. Wildkit was a lively kit as well, but things can easily change...
OOC:: Sorry it's a little short...

Silverkit glared at Wolfpelt. "How stupid do you think I am?" He said, managing to keep his voice low. "I'm not some ignorant new born you can fool with a weak game when my mother is so sick! I'll get Wildkit though. He seemed fine when I was in the nursery before." Silverkit turned and ran back to the nursery. "Wildkit?" he called softly, proding his brother in the side. "Wildkit you have to go and see Wolfpelt, Mothers gotten worse!"

hawkswing sat watching the argument with interest. They were both a match for each other. A wave of nuasea washed over her and she groaned quietly as silverkit trotted off to get his brother. She was glad that they were showing no signs of her illness.

Two lazy green eyes opened up from a nap. Silverkit's frantic voice woke the orange-brown tom. He had been sleeping really well, but this this seemed urgent. Wildkit you have to go and see Wolfpelt, Mothers gotten worse! were the words. He snapped his head up after the last part registered in his head. His motther was sick! He sprang up and brushed past his brother, rushing over to Wolfpelt's den. He entered and looked around, seeing his mother there. He went over to her and looked her over, not really knowing what to look for. He wasn't aware that his fur was still sticking up randomly in some places, but at the moment, he could care less.

Looking over her shoulder, Wolfpelt watched as the two kits tumbled into her den. They almost instantly skidded over to their mother. "Now, kits," the shaggy cat meowed softly, "I know that you know how ill your mother is. She doesn't need the extra stress on her shoulders if you catch what she has. Come here so I can have a look at you, and be quiet so Hawkswing can rest up..." Wolfpelt motioned with her tail for the kits to approach her. The shaggy cat glanced over at the queen. She was looking sick to her stomach. She'll need some herbs... She doesn't seem too bad, so that can wait until the kits are checked over.
Glancing down at the kits, the healing cat smiled warmly. "Don't worry," she meowed for only their ears, "I'm sure that your mother will be out of here in no time. Now, have either of you been feeling any different lately? Sensitivity to light and sound? Aching? Anything out of the ordinary?"

Hesitantly, Wildkit made his way over to Wolfpelt and leaned his ears towards her as she spoke. He wanted to believe what she said, but how could he? His mother was sick and as helpless as ever. He gulped with worry but managed to reply to the shaggy she-cat. "No, nothing strange. I'm great," he almost snapped. But then regretting it, he offered the Medicine Cat an apologetic look and hoped she would understand his sensitive mood at the moment. His orange-brown paws shifted on the ground and he continually glanced at his mother while he waited for Wolfpelt to finish the examination.

"We're fine." Silverkit snaped. He wasn't tryig to be rude, as usualy he wasn't like this, but this time was different. This time his mother was sick and he didn't believe a word they said. "Why don't you look after mother instead of wasting it on us." Silverkit spun around and sat with his back to the others.
OOC: sorry about silverkit.

Wolfpelt sighed with relief, blending with slight frustration. "Okay, if you want the truth, I'll be blunt. If you do not want to hear, out." She knew that they were harsh words, but more were to come, and the two were going to be warriors one day. Silverkit was undoubtedly going to stay and hear, but Wildkit could be a different case. She waited until they had made up their minds before speaking. "Alright," she meowed, laying down to be close to their ears, "as you know, your mother is very ill. I already have a very good estimation on what it is. If I am right, she has greencough. This case has happened very early in the season..." She blinked an apology to the kittens. "I am not positive about her conditions. She hid them from me, and even your father. I couldn't catch the sickness at an early state, and she is weak. I do not have very much catmint to help her... She rests in StarClan's paws. I am slowly becoming powerless." She had a feeling that the kits, Silverkit in particular, had something behind their teeth that they would have yowled at her.
Sitting up, the shaggy cat looked down upon the young ones. "If you like, you may help me take care of her," she offered. "It will be like your first Warrior assignment. All you have to do is make sure that her bedding is clean and she has food. Be sure that she eats it, as well. Frostedpaw and I will take care of her medication and water." If the kits refused, which was probable, it wouldn't make much of a difference. Frostedpaw could take care of what the kits would have done, and she could do the rest. It really wouldn't matter very much. "But if you help, you will have to be wary and keep your distance. I do not need anymore cats falling..."

Wildkit let his worry lessen a little as he began to listen to the she-cat, but that worry was soon replaced by frustration. Not necessarily at her, but at Hawkswing. How could their mother have hidden her sickness? Didn't she know the danger? He flickered his gaze over to her, watching her rest. He growled slightly, annoyed at his mother's dignity, or whatever it had been. "I'll help," he mewed to Wolfpelt, trying to hide his annoyance, as it was not meant for her. His mother would now be his main responsibility.

Dawnsghost had been pushing his way into the Medicine Cats den, when Wolfpelt's voice drifted out. He froze, listening to the reactions of his kits. He could hear the heavy, uneven breathing of a sick cat, Hawkswing, and the smell of illness surrounded the corner of the den. After a breif hesitation, he ducked under the low-lying plants and into the den. Padding to Wolfpelt's side, he murmured 'How is she?'

Silverkit growled under his breath. "I should of realised!" He hissed softly. "I should of known before now that she was this sick! I should of told someone before, when I thought she only had a small cold!" Silverkit dug his claws into the soft earth. "I'll stay and help mother, allthough I know you don't need the help, you just want to pacify me and Wildkit. We aren't stupid." Silverkit growled again, not noticing that his father had just entered.

OOC:: AGH!!! Sorry, totally forgot about this thing...
Wolfpelt mewed her thanks to the kittens and turned to the newly entered tom. "You were listening," she said softly. "You know that she isn't well. This season is terrible." The shaggy cat's meow became sharp with rage, but she kept it down for Hawkswing's sake. "I can't believe that StarClan is putting us through this weather! I wasn't ready for leafbare! My stocks are too low. I'll only be able to give her a couple doses." Her eyes were side with stress. What was she to do? She was only a cat!
"Kittens," she suddenly ordered, "leave. Let me speak with your father in private." They wouldn't deny the orders of a medicine cat, thus would have to depart. The shaggy cat watched them leave, but soon looked back at Dawnsghost. "I can't help her! I'm so sorry, Dawnsghost, but my supplies... I'm not sure she'll make it through this." Wolfpelt blinked, the misery and helplessness showing through her amber gaze.
