Darkpaw padded into the apprentice's den from the hollow where the made their dirt, groggy but his heart was still light with residual post-meeting excitement. Only a day ago he had finally received his mentor, therefor solidifying his acceptance into Thunderclan. Moons before he was nothing but an outcast, abandoned and unwanted by his crazy parents and older brother Dante. Darkpaw had chosen the path that starclan had laid out for him He nosed into the moss and shivered at the stale warmth the den offered against the cold. It was much welcomed. Darkpaw looked about the dark den with wide eyes, scents of the other apprentices filling his flaring nostrils. His pupils grew twice their size, his ears turned forward, rotating to the sides and the back as cats around the camp went on with their business. Soon, he would begin training. Leafstar had told him that they would start, and warned him that he would need a good nights rest. He did not take that warning with a light heart.
The tom knew how the sun rose. The days were short during the enduring season of leaf bare, making the nights desperately long. The dark brown tom crawled into the back of the den, finding his small nest closer to the center. He had figured the sides may be too cold when he chose the nest, and hoped the other apprentices thought the same way, and they would all sleep close together for warmth. He kneaded the nest into something a little more homely, and tried it out for size. He crossed his front paws and laid his chin on them, closing his eyes with one last purr of content, his tail curling around his cold wet nose.
But he could not sleep. He lay awake for hours, waiting for the sun to rise. When it didn't he tried to sleep again, and this time was awakened by the sudden light in the apprentices den. Sun. He sprung out of his nest, covered in moss. Darkpaw took a brief moment to groom himself, wiping down his ears and rubbing his eyes. He shook his head briskly, and stretched: first his front half, then his two back legs. His tail quivered as he burst out into the cold air, and the snow was still a shock to him. He resisted the urge to shiver. The tom looked around silently for Leafstar, his mentor, but didn't want to be pushy. He would just wait for her to tell him when she was ready. He looked around the camp, cats beginning to emerge from their den. He watched a hunting party already leave and a dawn patrol come back in. How could sleep through that? He padded toward the fresh-kill pile and sniffed at it. There wasn't enough there for him and all the kits and queens. He passed, and resigned to wait patiently, yet jittery with excitement, in a bright patch of warming sun.

Her situation was actually quite similar to his, though she preferred not to talk about it and knew nothing about his history, only that he was eager to prove himself just as she. She hadn't spoken to him all that much. Mothpaw had awoken, for she was a fairly light sleeper, after Darkpaw had jumped from the den. She herself had been so exicted, it felt as if she would never need to sleep again, but after skittering into the apprentice's den and curling up a bit near the entrance she was out cold. For while she had no thick coat she liked the fact that she could slip out un-noticed, or without waking a soul, also she wasn't a very sociable she-cat, especially with those she wasn't very well aquainted to.
The two kits who had accended to apprenticeship were younger than herself, and Dragonfire was elder. They all had fairly good reasoning, as to why she wasn't sociable with them, but Darkpaw and Stormpaw as she thought about it, were similiar in age, and both had just recieved, or already had mentors. She had scolded herself for this, because most likely all would be to focused upon their training now, to develop any kinship with the awkward calico she-apprentice.
She had been awakening every so often, giving a shiver now and then, and rethinking her on the edge of the den nest, especially with the snow now settling in. This time, she'd been coming around just as Darkpaw left the den, for he stirred up a breeze which had the effect as if he had splashed water upon her. She would climb to her feet, peeking around the edge of the den's entrance to see him sitting, perhaps waiting for his mentor. Leafstar. He was lucky, though not that Dawnghost was any less of a mentor, He had just seen Dragonfire become a warrior after all. Dark eyes flicked up toward, and across the sky, until it rested on the early morning sun. It may be a while before anyone awakened, unless most of thunderclan turned out to be early risers, which she guessed was not the case.
"Chilly isn't it?" she asked quietly, as golden and brown splotched bodice made it's way from the den, shaking scraps of moss from her fur as she did so. Perhaps Darkpaw didn't need or want the company, but Mothpaw at the moment needed someone to socialize with. He was to be her victim. Perhaps they could become aqqaintences, or even friends maybe if she was lucky. Figure twisted, stretching herself quickly before she sat near him, but far enough away to show she wasn't really comfortable with conversation just yet. "Waiting for Leafstar?" a simple question really, for in fact wasn't she waiting for Dawnghost this very moment. It was obvious that both were eager to start training. Perhaps that could be a topic of conversation.

Darkpaw's ears twitched backwards, catching the soft sounds of crushing of snow under-paw. His head twisted around and his pupils narrowed against the sun-glaring snow and ice crystals. He watched as Mothpaw padded up to him, which was curious enough for the young tom. He himself was less than social, and so the tom was, at first, a little tense. But the other apprentice seemed friendly enough to Darkpaw. Not that many cats were unfriendly. The Thunderclan leader seemed to want to make him a part of the clan. but then again that might just be because the clan needs as many warriors as they can get. Either way, Darkpaw needed to become a member of this clan. And by doing that he would have to make friends within the apprentices.
He turned to the beautiful young she-cat, trying not to think about how pretty he actually thought she was. He had always thought calico type cats were the most beautiful. Darkpaw smiled nervously, avoiding her gaze in a subtle, bashful way. "chilly isn't it?" she asked him. He nodded slightly, answering her partly by an involuntary shiver. He grunted simply in a vocal response, not sure of what to say. What is this thing called small talk? He had no idea how to talk about the weather. Cold was cold, hot was hot and rain was rain. Thats it! His heart sped. Ohhh... what to say...
She took care of that for him too. "Waiting for Leafstar?" she asked him again. Darkpaw thought about how inquisitive Mothpaw was. He turned to her, smiling, and nodded once. A breeze ruffled his fur and he shivered again, shaking in a violent-twitching sort of way. He turned to her and smiled again, clearing his throat "Yes I am," he rumbled in a slight purr, "You are waiting for Dawnghost, I presume? Perhaps we will train together." he offered, a little hopefully.

She would throw a nod in his direction, hunching her shoulders and shaking a bit, somewhat like a bird trying to plump up their feathers. "Maybe we will. I look forward to it" she concluded after a few moments of silence in her part. He seemed nice enough, if a little quiet, though Mothpaw was understanding of these qualities, as she herself possessed them. She thought of all she didn't know, and couldn't begin to fathom the road she had stepped upon the previous night. How was she supposed to learn the things that some of these kits have had ingrained in their families for generations? She shook her head, scattering the doubts like leaves falling from a tree branch.
"It's hard to think about learning everything we have to." She said, on impulse really, not even noticing it had slipped from her throat until it hung in the air before her. Stupid Mothpaw! she cursed herself, go ahead and ruin his opinion of you! She sighed to herself, thinking of how he must think she was a clan doubter, though really how could she not be skeptical, when she knew nothing about the clans history or her own to top it off? Yet again, she would force herself out of the downward spiral that was thoughts of family.
"I mean, training wise of course." One thing she did know, there was always talk of the great warriors of the past. Mothpaw was determined to be one of those warriors, even if her mother was a free loader and she knew nothing what-so-ever about her father. Thunderclan would remember her as one of their own.
"Sorry. I ramble when I'm nervous." another slip up. Oh way to go Ms. Awkward.

Darkpaw offered his fellow apprentice a few nods here and there, blinking against a stern leafbare wind. His dark fur fluffed out defiantly and he shivered again, listening to his comrade babble on and on. He stifled a laugh. It was kind of cute. Was she nervous around him specifically? Or was it just that she was nervous around any kind of cat. He didn't care. He liked to think that she was nervous because she was talking to him specifically. It made him feel like SOMEONE aside from his mentor liked him. The tom waited for her respectfully, his dark, soft eyes watching her carefully. She was like the she-cat version of him in some ways.
They were both kind of socially awkward, and Darkpaw had used to ramble on like that when he was younger. not that he thought Mothpaw was any younger than he. They were probably about the same age. But a personality quality is a quality. Then again there were slight differences. "Sorry. I ramble when I'm nervous." he smiled warmly at her, turning to face her completely now. He was always gentle with she-cats.
He was brought up to believe that they needed to be treated gently. He supposed it was supposed to be a lesson out of malice, and a strike against she-cats. but back then he took 'gently' as a code-word for respectfully. He didn't quite understand many of the lessons his father taught. once he realized that his father meant the she-cats were weaker than toms, Darkpaw almost laughed. Yeah right. But they did deserve respect, more respect than what his father was talking about. He frowned confusedly. Did this sound a little sexist? He didn't know. All he knew was that he treated she-cats with more respect than many toms, and often more than was warranted (because he has met some beastly she-cats in his short moons).
"It's alright. I have the same problem too sometimes... I just keep talking and talking and talking... " he smiled, " I would love to have a training buddy. Did you sleep well last night? I didn't sleep a wink. Would you like some fresh kill?" Darkpaw paused and shook his head, almost laughing. Well, he just provided solid evidence for his latter statement, anyway. Good job, spaz.

"It's alright. I have the same problem too sometimes... I just keep talking and talking and talking... " he smiled, " I would love to have a training buddy. Did you sleep well last night? I didn't sleep a wink. Would you like some fresh kill?"
She forced herself to refrain from chuckling, knowing full well she had just admitted to doing the same thing. Then he had been kind enough to forgive her for her trait, both admitting he had done the same thing in the past, and proving he still did.
She would nod respectively, to his rambling comment, the open her mouth "Yes, a training buddy would be great, especially one my age. Who i'm not afraid of." she paused, thinking of how that sounded, She hadn't thought about it up until that moment, but the original awkwardness around Darkpaw had faded, and she felt as if she had known him since her birth, though it was obvious she hadn't. "Imean. I'm not afraid of them, not the kits, just maybe Stormpaw alittle. He's much more knowledgable. I'm not " she paused, feeling her skin grow hot beneath her fur, off and rambling again. she felt the need to finishe her thoughts now though, they were buzzing in the front of her brain, and she had the feeling Darkpaw wouldn't think any less of her for sharing them. "I'm more afraid of the kits though, not like afraid afraid. More like i'm afriad of corrupting them, they're so young and don't know much, though they probably know more about Thunderclan than I do at this point."
She shut her mouth, with an audible click, then shifted rather uncomfortably again, another fact. She tended to blurt out things without really thinking about them. Silence pressed on her for a few moments, before she felt the need to atleast try and erase her little thought puke, and answer the rest of her compainions questions.
"I did sleep rather well, like a hibrination badger" She smiled and shook her head to rid herself of the mental image "Yes. Let me go get it though. " she would climb to her feet, and pad away a bit faster than necessary, mumbling things about her stupid mouth under her breath. The fresh kill pile was just a short trott across camp, and she grabbed somthing for herself, and a a couple mice for Darkpaw, he was too scrawny, so she would make sure he ate them both. Returning a few moments later, dark eyes would blink as she set them before him, then settled next to him again, closer than she had before, and taking small bites of her own prey.

Thetom chuckled at Mothpaw and her badger simile. he wished he had slept like a hibernating badger. He was much too hyped up on post-apprentice ceremony adrenaline. He was quite the opposite of Mothpaw in that sense, and he was slightly jealous of that ability to sleep so soundly after such a wonderfully exciting day previous.
he watched her as she went off to fetch the fresh kill, even though he had made a move to go and get some. He made himself sit back down. He had a feeling that Leafstar and Dawnghost would put both of them to hard work. He looked off into the distance, his eyes cloudy as he imagined what they would learned. He imagined sparring with his mentor and with other apprentices, and learning to hunt tough game like birds, squirrels and rabbits especially. Perhaps he would even learn to fish, although that was Riverclan territory and he didn't relish the thought of stealing prey from another clan, even if there was a bit of river in his territory. He imagined his teeth sinking into an enemy, protecting his clan, and perhaps even his kin. His ears moved back against the wind as the rushing sound deafened him.
The sudden scent of fresh kill hit his nostrils and he breathed in deep. He twisted his head and looked down. His eyes grew a little in confusion and he looked up at the she-cat apprentice. "Uh..." he asked hesitantly, "I can't eat both of them..." he cast a glance at the already bare fresh-kill pile, then to the extra mouse, and then back at Mothpaw. "Thank you though... perhaps I will take it to Hawkswing." He said slowly. She needed them more than he.

"Oh I'm such a mouse-brain!"
She had thought about it the moment after he said, it, eyes returning to the meager pile, then flickering back to her thrush, and then the two mice. They could easily share whatever she got for herself, and then she had gotten him two mice, which perhaps the queens or others of the clan. She shook her head "Well now, We could save these and share this bird if you think it's enough for you ?"
She looked down at her thrush, it seemed of okay size plus if he was that hungry, he could have most of it. She had eaten only a few bites, and figured she could hold out until they may have had a chance to hunt later. "But yes, we could take the other to Hawkswing"
Again she cursed herself for not being observant. Stupid Mothpaw, just Stupid.[[Beh. No muse sorry]]

Darkpaw stood and padded to Mothpaw, brushing his tail against her shoulder in a friendly gesture. He saw her concern for him and it warmed him. He had never had anyone care about him that much. He purred deeply, his chest rumbling and vibrating in his throat. He shared the bird with his friend, taking one half and leaving the other half for her. The tom felt himself warm up as he ate and he appreciated the extra surge of energy. But his stomach was still painfully empty, and the little morsel of bird left his stomach wanting more, rather than quenching his hunger. But he didn’t complain. He merely smiled at Mothpaw and licked his whiskers with a satisfied pink tongue. He would hunt for more prey when he was taught how by Leafstar.
He stretched by reaching his head to the sky, his chest fur puffing up as he bent back a little. He snapped forward like a young tree after a heavy draft of snow falls off of it. His eyes were much sharper and he himself felt as if a new life had been given to him. The tom licked his paw and rubbed it behind his ear, and said to Mothpaw, “That was a good choice. I love bird.” Darkpaw smiled, “So...what do you think they’ll teach us today? I hope its hunting...”

She had been running for hours on end it seemed. But no, it was only that she had been running so fast and desperately, trying to escape what chased her. Fear was gleaming in her green eyes, and her fur was standing on end. If she did not stop running soon, her paws would give out below her, and she would stumble to the ground and to the mercy of her chaser. She did not want to die. Besides the sound of her paws hitting the hard earth below and her tired breathing, she could hear her chaser's heavy breathing, his morbid breath grazing her back fur...
Panic bolted through her once more, and her eyes widened in terror. She was slowing down. She forced her legs to move faster, praying that she could find the energy to continue. But she had used it all up already. It was no use. The stench of death was fogging over her, slowly at first, but steadily...
Leafstar snapped her head up and her paws out, her claws gleaming in the little light in her den. She was breathing hard, her tabby chest heaving up and down. Her pelt was drenched in sweat, and her eyes were shadowed by the terror of her dream. Looking around and realizing where she was and that she was safe, the leader relaxed and cuddled into a ball, her eyes still watching the den.
What had that horrifying dream meant? And what was chasing her, with the intention of taking her life? She pondered those questions for some time, shaking away the vivid memory of the dream. She thought it might be a warning from StarClan. Once her nerves calmed down, she briefly remembered that she had to take her new apprentice out today for his first lesson. With that, she began to groom herself, not wanting to show her prior state to her clanmates to not worry them. Once her fur was lying flat as usual, she took five deep breaths before exiting her den. The thought of telling Wolfpelt of her dream fleeted across her mind. And she would, after the lesson.
Everything seemed normal in camp, the light snow covering the ground with paw prints decorating it in places. There was no sign of any threat. Forcing herself to put a calm face on, Leafstar turned to the direction of the Apprentice's Den. From afar she recognized the smaller silhouettes of her apprentice and Mothpaw, huddled around something on the ground, probably fresh-kill. She padded over to them, and although the snow dulled their sense of smell, the scent of bird blood wafted over to her, as if it was fresh. Her stomach growled in hunger, and she glanced over to the fresh-kill pile. It was low. She frowned at it, but knew that in order to make it through the day without hallucinating or something, she needed to eat. She picked up a mouse and continued walking towards the apprentices.
She dropped her mouse before her as she arrived, and then looked at each of them. "Good morning Darkpaw, Mothpaw." Her voice was pleasant enough. "Darkpaw, we may leave after I finish my breakfast. Mothpaw, I do not know what Dawnsghost plans for you are, but you may go ask him in the Warrior's Den if he would allow you to come join our tour around the territory, or if he has other plans." Then she bent her head down and took her first bite of the chilled mouse. She missed the warm blood of summer.

Mothpaw would nod happily to his bird comment, afterall she had chosen it for a reason. She took only a few more bites, and nosed the other bit back to him, he still looked hungry. "I Don't know, I hope we get to hunt a little though." she shot a glance to the fresh-kill pile "I want to help. some at least" she shook her head a bit, as if saying she was being foolish again.
She was silent for a moment, wishing perhaps that Dawnghost would get up now, so that she could start making a difference. Leafstar seemed to come out of no where, the young calico giving a jump. She would sigh a moment later, looking sheepish at having startled so easily.
She drooped slightly as she heard Leafstar talking of taking Darkpaw out for two reasons. One, she wished she would be out training as well, and two she partly wished Leafstar would not take her first friend away, she was quite enjoying their conversation. Then, after shoulders had slumped ever so slightly, they rose back up an instant later a somewhat awed expression crossing her features. Leafstar was telling her she could go with them?! so cool! "Ah. Thanks Leafstar, I'll go find him now!"
Mothpaw would then turn, and charge toward the warriors den, her stub of a tail standing as high as it could.

Darkpaw stiffened as his new mentor walked in with a mouse of her own. He groomed himself self consciously, a thousand thoughts bubbling inside that small head of his. His eyes narrowed a bit as he thought and wondered what he would be taught. He went through the motions of hunting in his mind and imagined himself stalking and scenting and hunting for the clan. He also imagined running badgers and foxes and clan cats out of his territory too, and despite this, found himself wondering how much of the heroic stuff he would actually be doing. He turned to Leafstar and nodded respectfully, throwing a glance to Mothpaw. She seemed a bit sheepish around the leader, he noticed dully, though so was he. He flicked her shoulder with the tip of his tail as she seemed to him to be a bit dissapointed. He was too, a little, because Leafstar had interrupted their conversation. But that's fine, they would talk later. Leafstar told her, "Mothpaw, I do not know what Dawnsghost plans for you are, but you may go ask him in the Warrior's Den if he would allow you to come join our tour around the territory, or if he has other plans." and he smiled broadly at her as she hurried off to find Dawnsghost. He hoped they'd be allowed to train together. The young tom shuffled his paws nervously and let his gaze wander, deliberately avoiding conversation with Leafstar, hoping she had nothing to say to him. Nothing was more awkward than small talk. He decided to just let her eat, and hopefully she would be content with that.... OOC: Sorry for the bad post guys... and the lateness

Dawnsghost slowly opened his eyes to the sound of quiet voices outside, and the skittering of running paws, heading straight for the Warriors den. 'What...' he thought drowsily, then suddenly realised it must be his apprentice. He had told the younger cat to be up early, and then slept in himself! Some mentor he was!
Pushing himself into a seated position, the russet tom gave himself a few quick licks to replace ruffled fur, then padded forward to meet Mothpaw, who was indeed heading towards the den, obviously to fetch him. 'Sorry Mothpaw, I couldn't get to sleep at first, then when I finally got to sleep, a monster could have driven past and I wouldn't have woken up.' walking over to the diminished fresh-kill pile, he picked up a small vole and quickly devoured it with a few bites. Noticing Leafstar standing with her own apprentice, Darkpaw, he meowed, 'Goodmorning Leafstar, Darkpaw. Did you have anything in mind for today trainingwise?'

At last finished with her meager mouse, Leafstar lifted her head and began to groom her muzzle and head. She glanced over at her young apprentice, amused as she realized he was purposefully avoiding her eyes. She could understand. Being the apprentice to the clan leader was a big thing, remembering the tom that had been the apprentice to the leader when she was an apprentice as well.
She heard the soft sound of pawsteps, and she turned to see Dawnsghost padding out of the Warrior's Den, meeting up with Mothpaw. He picked up a piece of fresh-kill and wolfed it down. Then he greeted her and asked her for her plans.
"Good Morning, Dawnsghost. I was planning on taking Darkpaw out for his first walk through the territory. I was wondering if you would like to join us."

Thinking for a moment, he turned to his apprentice and asked of her 'Would you like to learn the territory with another apprentice and mentor?' Dawnsghost could remember his own territory introduction, and was glad to have had one of his denmates with him at the time, though some may see differently. But, he waited, wanting to know what Mothpaw said to the proposal.

Mothpaw sat giddy behind dawnghost happy that she would be able to not only begin her trainging today but she may be allowed to do it with a friend. Who if he wasn't caught in awkward mments himself she suspected that he would help her out of hers. "sure Dawnghost, I'd love to see the territory with them..." a pause "is that okay?"

'Of course that's fine, I did the same thing myself as an apprentice.' He smiled at the shy looking she-cat, hoping that having himself as an mentor would help her come out of her shell, and become more relaxed. Flicking his gaze back to Leafstar, Dawnsghost nodded and said, 'Then we'd love to join you. When were you planning on leaving?'

A faint cat-like smile erupted on the tabby's muzzle. It was adorable to see the young cats so nervous and meek. They would soon grow out of it though, once they were accustomed to their mentors. She just hoped they didn't turn out to be a rowdy group. Addressing the question, she replied, "Once everyone is ready. Have you two eaten yet? Today is an exception in hunting before eating, as you will need all the energy to traverse our territory. We'll probably be out all day, so we may have to hunt on our way back as well." The question was directed at the apprentices. She remembered clearly how her mentor had planned her tour day, his words mimicking her almost to the letter. Her mentor had trained her very well-otherwise she wouldn't be leader- and she hoped to train Darkpaw similarly, so he could grow to be the best someday. First though, he had to learn the basics, and that included learning the territory so well, you could make your way around it with your eyes closed.

The small she-apprentice would scoot forward a little, so she was almost parallel with her mentor, before asnswering the questions that Leafstar had placed upon the air. "We've already eaten Leafstar, there is just the matter of taking the spare mouse to Hawkswing.." a quick pause and a glance to Darkpaw, perhaps wishing he would pull out of the awkward ditch she had fallen into. Of course, even in the short time she had actually conversed with him she had to feeling he would fall in beside her, being as much alike as they were. "If we have the time"
She would cast a glance over the most likely almost forzen mouse, which either should be eaten soon or replaced to the pile. "So..." Nono, she chided herself, not another awkward moment, but unfortunatley, as it happened often she did fall into one. Casting once more another desprate glance at Darkpaw, maybe he could just say something to distract both of the elder and somewhat intimidating mentors from her random babbling. "Yeah......"

Dawnsghost nodded in agreement with Mothpaws answer, then meowed, 'I'll take it to her' befere picking it up and padding away. Dropping it to his mate, still in the Medicine Cats den, he trecked back, joining the thwo apprentices and their leader. 'Ready' he said, eager to get going. He needed to stretch out his legs, and the territory treck would work perfectly. 'Should we start near Sunningrocks, or Snakerocks?' He asked of Leafstar, allowing her to take the lead as the more experienced cat.

For a mere second, Leafstar considered the options. "Let us begin with Sunning Rocks. We can go towards Four Trees afterward, then to Snake Rocks, and at last through Tall Pines. We can take our time showing them the history behind everything and any little pieces of knowledge that might be helpful along the way." She looked at everyone once before finishing, "Alright, it seems that we are all ready to go." With that, she turned and padded towards the camp entrance. She didn't go very fast just so that they could easily walk besides her.
Along the way to their first destination, Leafstar pointed out small things about the forest, little perks that were useful. She also let Dawnsghost speak whenever he wished, as the apprentices could learn from both of the older warriors.
At last arriving at Sunning Rocks, the tabby leader warned, "Do not go near the water. It may look frozen, but the river can be deceiving. Also, always, not just in the future, never come here alone. This land has long been disputed between us and RiverClan. We can't anticipate their attacks to regain Sunning Rocks. But otherwise, this is the perfect place to sunbathe and prey tends to hide here as well." She glanced over at Dawnsghost to see if he wanted to add anything. Then she sat on one of the rocks and let Darkpaw and Mothpaw look around for a bit.

Walking beside his leader, Dawnsghost metioned a few things about the territory, but mostly stayed silent, using the time to think. When they reached Sunningrocks, however, he went into mentor-mode. Motioning the two apprentices closer to the border, he encorouged them to take a big sniff. 'That slightly tangy scent is that of RiverClan. Make sure you commint it to memory, as there are frequent skirmishes between us over this very border.' The russet tom then stepped back, and joined Leafstar on the large, warm rocks to allow some free time in the area.

They may have moved rather slowly, but the little she-cat's nervous, and not to mention short, stride left her always a few steps behind the elder cats, and hurrying to catch up. Ears swiveled with each movement and sound that would come her way, afterall she hadn't been out of camp much since mother had dropped her there. Even then she only have dim recolections of the wonders of the outside world. Eyes were larger than normal. aiming to commit everything to her memory. Sunningrocks was brilliant. Though they had only been stopped for a short time, her coated was already warmed by the sun.
Riverclan's tangy scent made her noise wrinkle ever so slightly, and she thought it surprised her at how repulsive it seemed to her, the scent of a different clan. Limbs would lead her to weave around the rocks, of course keeping a respectful distance from the river. The thought of falling beneath it's surface made her shudder. "Why is it disputed?" while she could smell a bit of prey, it was such a small area. Didn't really seem like much of an area to have a battle over, but maybe that was just Mothpaw's view.

Leafstar was much cherishing the rare leafbare warmth on one of the silver stones when she heard Mothpaw's question. The answer was something that she remembered learning as a kit from the Elders. But she knew that the young she-cat hadn't been in the Clan long enough to know. With a quick glance over at the RiverClan side of the bank, she began to tell the story.
"Many moons ago, the river used to be even bigger and mightier than it is now. Sunningrocks used to be an island in the middle of the river, and therefore only RiverClan cats could access it. However, over time, the river began to shrink, and very soon, Sunningrocks seized being an island and lay on our side of the bank. We claimed it as ours, as it is clearly on our territory. But of course, RiverClan disagreed, saying that because they had used it for so long, they had every right to step onto ThunderClan land and have Sunningrocks be theirs. Many lives have been lost because of the countless battles over this piece of land. And although we have held it for so long, RiverClan still believes they have claim to it, and challenge us every so often."
The story was pretty tragic, but also very true. The idea that she was standing on rocks that had been stained by the blood of many startled her, as she had never thought about it that way. But she knew that all the ancient ThunderClanners had fought so that they could stand on them peacefully. She knew what she was doing was right. Leafstar shook the idea from her head and watched the two apprentices idly, waiting if there were any more questions.
