The gray-blue tabby padded along the forest, still in ThunderClan territory. The sun was barely above the horizon, casting a lazy glow to the forest. Leafblaze was hungry, but she knew she must not eat until she was accepted as leader by StarClan. So instead she brought her mind to other things, like what she would do once she was leader. Her clan would feel more confident, but she still had much to do. She needed to organize mostly. But she was eager for the job.
At last, she arrived at Four Trees, where the gathering the night before had been held. It was empty, and she passed right through it. Then she arrived at the beginning of WindClan territory. She paused for a moment and hoped a patrol did not catch up to her. Even if one did though, they had to let her pass. So she continued, the sun fully risen.
She felt uncomfortable in such an open area, so she speed up her pace. At this rate, she would reach Mothermouth by sunset. The day passed by and her pads felt coarse from the dry ground. Near sunset she arrived at the twoleg barn bordering WindClan. She did not stop there, for the mice smelled delicious, ans she did not want to be tempted.
Now for her least favorite part, crossing the Thunderpath. Thankfully, because it was almost night, there weren't that many twoleg monsters, but their deep harsh sound still troubled her. She waited besides the black path, pressing her tabby body to the ground. When the coast was clear, she rushed across the hard ebony path and reached the other side. With a grateful sigh, she continued and left the Thunderpath stench behind.
The moon was already up by the time she reached the entrance of the Highstones. Because of the herbs Wolfpelt had given her, she was not as hungry as she expected to be or tired. She laid down outside the entrance for a bit, building up some energy and waiting for the night to continue for a bit.
At last, she stood up and looking once more up at the moon, she headed into the tunnel, which was pitch black. She had no sense of direction in here, and only her whiskers brushing against the tunnel walls told her where she was going. After what seemed like an endless time, she reached a small cave with the moonstone sitting in the middle. The hole in the ceiling caused the moonlight to enter and bright up the stone. It glittered beautifully, and Leafblaze wanted to just stare at it.
She slowly padded up to the stone and laid down in front of it, pressing her nose to the cold surface. She closed her eyes, and immediately she fell into what seemed like dreams.
She was sitting in the middle of a circle of cats, nine of them to be exact. They were surrounded by mist, and all she could tell from them was that their pelts glowed like stars. She could not tell who they were, for she only saw their outlines and them sparkling. She gulped and she heard one of them say, "Welcome Leafblaze. You shall now be accepted into the rank of leader, and given your new name, Leafstar."
Suddenly, pain shot through her, causing her to fall to the floor in agony. She writhed on the floor, as her life seeped out of her. Then the pain was gone, but somehow, she was still alive. She staggered up and a tiny cat padded up to her. Only until the kit was in front of her did she realize who it was. "Streamkit! Is that really you?" The silver tabby nodded and replied in a tiny voice, "It is."
Leafstar almost bounded over to her dead brother. She remembered how she would play with him and her sister Snowkit when they were young. But out of the three, only she had survived.
Streamkit brushed muzzles with her and she breathed in his familiar scent. "I missed you," she told him. "I did too. But now we will see each other more often." Then the silver tabby said in a louder voice, "I give you the life of defending you Clan at all cost, just like you would defend me." Another burst of pain went through her body, making her gasp. Then it was gone, but already she was tired.
Streamkit touched noses and then padded back to the circle. Another kit stalked up to her, and this time it was Snowkit, her white pelted sister. "Snowkit! Oh, its great to see you again." Her sister smiled and rubbed muzzles. "I give you the life of compassion, as you had for me when I was never able to do what you could."
This time, a burst of energy shot through her, not hurting her, but calming her instead. She hoped it would continue like this.
Then came a dark tortoiseshell tom who she had never seen before. "I am Burnedstar, the last leader of ThunderClan. I give you the life of wisdom to handle the situations ThunderClan may come across. She felt another shot of energy, but it was more powerful and she almost staggered. The tom then stepped back with a nod.
Then a light ginger she-cat approached her and said, "I am Roseflower, the last ThunderClan medicine cat. I give you the life of faith, for faith in your clan and in StarClan." This energy burst was gentle and commanding at the same time.
Next was someone she knew very well. It was Grasstail, her tabby mother. The female came up the her and meowed, "Leafstar, oh look at what you have become! I am so proud of you. I give you the life of love." Receiving that life was the best, as it was warm and sweet. "Mother..." she mewed, not wanting to leave Grasstail's fur again. "You shall see me again, darling. Do not worry about that."
After her mother came her father, Runningclaw. The black and white tom congratulated her and gave her the life of determination, which again brought pain to her body.
Then it was Jaggedpaw. He used to be her best friend before he died of a badger attack. He bounded over to her and greeted her playfully, letting her know he had missed her. "I give you the life of mentoring, to take care that all the apprentices make it to warrior status." The pain almost didn't bother her this time, as she was too concerned feeling sorry that the brown tabby had not become a warrior with her.
After was a she-cat she had become friends with that was from RiverClan. Robinwing was her name. She was dark gray with a ginger chest, and she gave her the life of justice, to treat others fairly.
The last two were cats she did not know. But the stars in their pelts shined brighter that any others. The first was Owlstar, who she knew was the second leader of ThunderClan. That this ancient cat was giving her a life was unbelievable. " I give you the life loyalty, to be loyal to what you know is right."
The last cat to give her a life was Thunderstar, the ancient orange leader that was the first to lead her clan. He was large and proud, and he looked at her with confidence, like he knew she would do great. She only hoped so. "I give you the life of courage, to lead ThunderClan with into battle and through other situations that may need it," he told her, his voice deep and wise. The shocking pain was almost enough to cause her to fall again, but she was not just about to fall in front of this ancient leader.
Once she had received her nine lives, she managed to say to them, "Thank you, I will lead ThunderClan with all that you have given me."
Then the voice of Thunderstar rebounded around them. "So you shall. Now, return to your Clan, and rest."
Leafstar opened her eyes and saw the Moonstone in front of her nose. Her nose was chilled because of the stone. She stood up weakly, as apparently the weakness was in real life too. With one last glance at the stone, she padded back into the tunnel, and out into open. She caught a mouse and ate it gratefully, strength seeping back into her. Then she curled up into a ball and went to sleep, knowing that in the morning she would start the journey back home and arrive at the ThunderClan camp as their leader.
